Dance School in Barcelona Celebrates its 34th Anniversary with the Opening of New Dance Studios with Harlequin Floors

30th September 2022

On 10th October the inauguration of the new dance facilities at the “Escola de Dansa Elisenda Tarragó” in Barcelona will be unveiled. This new training space compliments the facilities that the school already has, with every dance studio adorned with Harlequin sprung and vinyl dance floors. Elisenda Tarragó, a client of Harlequin for over twelve years tells us that “Harlequin floors protect and safeguard our teachers and students whilst dancing”. This inauguration date is particularly notable as it coincides with the 34th anniversary since the opening of the school.

Elisenda Tarragó, director and founder of the school, began teaching at the age of 16, introducing boys and girls from various schools in Barcelona to the world of dance. In 1983, she obtained her Dance Teachers Degree from the Royal Academy of Dance, the first at state level. A few years later, in 1988, Elisenda opened her own dance school in the famous Eixample in Barcelona. This initial personal project has evolved over the years to become an ambitious family project. Elisenda’s daughter joined the school and has been teaching classes for more than 20 years. Her son, a professional dancer has added a new creative flair and support to the style of dance teaching at the school too.

Since its inauguration, more than 2000 students have passed through the school and have been taught a variety of dance genres including classic ballet, contemporary, tap dance, modern-jazz, hip hop and other urban dances, all supported by a training plan based on the methods of the “Royal Academy of Dance” and the “Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance”. Many dance students from the school have gone on to have professional careers in both classical dance and musical theatre throughout Spain.

The school is a recognised and authorised centre of the Generalitat de Catalunya and there are various examination levels within each dance genre. For those that would like to take up dance on a professional level there are degree courses available, teaching training courses and continual professional development for active dance teachers.

The new facilities are all equipped with a Harlequin Flexity sprung floor and a Harlequin Standfast vinyl.
