But in these difficult times, it is more important than ever to focus on improving hygiene, so Harlequin have now produced a new, improved Cascade with BioCote® antimicrobial protection.
It is the Harlequin Cascade that you know and love but with an added ingredient with proven antimicrobial properties.
What is antimicrobial protection and why do I need it?
A microbe is an organism so small you need a microscope to see it. Microbes include bacteria, mould and viruses, such as Legionella, Coronavirus, Campylobacter, Pseudomonas, Shigella, H1N1 virus and Aspergillus Niger.
Antimicrobial is used to describe substances which demonstrate the ability to reduce the presence of microbes and antimicrobial technology describes the use of additives to create products that are permanently protected against microbes.
BioCote antimicrobial technology is manufactured into the new Harlequin Cascade, creating a dance surface upon which microbes, such as bacteria and viruses, cannot survive.
The result is a floor which is easier to keep hygienically clean, so reducing the risk of cross contamination by working constantly to reduce the presence of microbes on the surface of the flooring.
How does it work?
BioCote integral antimicrobial protection uses silver ion technology which is manufactured into new Harlequin Cascade and is proven to offer protection for the expected lifetime of the product. Unlike some antibacterial protection, it will not wear out or wash off.
The silver ions act against microbes in three ways:
- They promote the formation of reactive oxygen species which irreversibly damages bacteria cells.
- They stop bacteria reproduction by interfering with their DNA replication and regeneration.
- They can combine with bacteria proteins causing disruption in energy production and other essential functions that otherwise would keep bacteria alive.
This technology reduces microbes on the floor by up to 86% in 15 minutes and up to 99.99% in 24 hours. It works continuously and has been proven effective against a wide range of microbes including influenza A virus (H1N1) and feline coronavirus (strain Munich).
The BioCote® silver ion additive is inert and has no effect on the appearance or performance characteristics of the Harlequin Cascade.
